Namste, Dream Home Shangri-La Treks & Travels offer currently has volunteer opportunities available through our partner organization in the beautiful Himalayan Kingdom of country Nepal. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational and community aid programs. This will give you chance to make an important contribution to the people of Nepal and while doing so gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture, that will stay with you the rest of your life time.
Program Teaching English. D.H.S.Treks & Travel's offers not only trekking, expedition, rafting, tours, sightseeing, safari and adventure trips but also an opportunities to live and work with Nepali people in Nepal's remotes villages. Dream Home Shangri-La Treks & Travels help to 10% percentage of profit to ethnic's "Samudayik Chhar Huala Beuan Samaj" on yearly bais as Dream Home Shangri-La Treks & Travels Experience is the main supporter of the organization. Samudayik Chara Huala Beuan Samaj is a commmunity based social organization which is working on Dolakha district of Nepal and it has run various projects in various field to uplift the back weird people.
So we are hearty welcome to you for volunteer those project run ethnics Samudayik Chhar Hyual Beuan Samaj Ghyang sukathokar okhreni; of Dolakha Nepal. During Volunteer you will stay in Nepali family so you will a opportunity to learn about Nepali society, culture, currently offer to you and following volunteer oppotunities.
Teaching:- You will teach for three to five hours per day ( up to you) schools are open six days a week (only the Saturday is off) Sheree Lax-mi Higher Secondary School ( Student's age 5-18years ) - Minimum duration of volunteering-one week you can teach English, Math Science, Account, Social studies, Education, Population, Environment and Arts as you want. And you can choose the class ( from class 10+2) and as a volunteer you can teach one or more subjects.
Working in an Orphanages:- Volunteers will be placed in an orphanage where they will assist the children in their day to day routine ( Volunteer still live with a host family or where available in the actual orphanage). The children are mostly between the age of four to fifteen and have a basis understanding of English. The general role of the volunteer will be act as an older sibling: to care for, look after and encourage the children. Volunteers will teach the children general life skills, including health and sanitation, as well as arts, crafts and misc. In some of the orphanages the children do go to school, however you can help the children with their school work in others. Placements are limited in this program.
School and Community Maintenance to Program. Volunteers stay in a village with a Nepali family and help with and community maintenance. You will be involved in painting and repairs. During this period volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in local festivals and get the opportunities to exchange their culture.
Home stay, Culture Exchange. Volunteers stay in village with a Nepali Family. The home stay program is a good opportunity for volunteers to learn about the Nepali Culture, lifestyle, language, and people. We can arrange home stay program in most parts of Nepal. During this period volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in local festivals and get the opportunity to-exchange their culture. Home stay can only be arranged for (Two Weeks or One to Three Months). In a typical placement volunteers stay in a family where they get Nepali food twice a day ( around 9 o'clock in the morning and 7 o'clock in the evening). Tea served in the morning and in the afternoon. Volunteers will have the opportunity to get together with other volunteer and share their experience. You will be able to travels to nearby towns to purchase things for daily use and could travels to other areas on longer vacation. Besides your project work, volunteers can can utilize their spare time in organizing the youth and women's groups of the community to do some worthwhile activities like building a smokeless stove, toilet by using local meterials, making a soak pit, kitchen gardening, making a solar dryer, garbage management or paper recyling.
Program Location. The placement are available in Kathmandu valley to if you like which is remote place of Himalayan range we can do manage your time in Nepal's rural areas. The locations of the program placement can very with regards to number of issues. Placements are determined upon arrival with considerations of safety of volunteer and availability.
Program Requirements. For volunteers Age must be over 18 years old, have no major Health problems, program Schedule. The volunteer program starts on the 1st of each month. You can volunteer any where from 2 week to 5 months. The school are closed during a whole of July so the teaching English program is limited during this period. Please note that September- November there are local festivals that can disrupt your program. This is dictated by the Lunar Calender. Therefore if you are volunteering for month or less, we do not recommend starting your placement at this time of year. for those volunteering for a longer period of time, the festival does provide a great opportunity ti interest with the local culture.
Volunteer, Traveler Cost:US$175 a week per person,(US$25 a day), (Any one like a month, US$250)per person, where your money goes. Its 60% of cost goes to the family where you are stay during your volunteer work for your expenses. And the other 40% goes to the " volunteer house building project". As we have planned to build a house for the volunteers and saving some money to build it because we don't want to make burden to the local families making them always looking after you The cost will decrease one the volunteer house has been built. We know you're donating your valuable time there fore we are trying to offer volunteering in the best possible cost. The cost includes meals, accommodation and transport by local bus. During the your volunteer work. accommodation you will be provided very simple accommodation, in the Nepales traditional house, you will be provided a basis with a mattress and a blanket, although we recommend you to take your own sleeping bag.
Toilet & Bathing Room Facilities. Toilets will be very simple not flash one and Bathing Room. There is not facilities for private bathing room in the village there are only the local spring water ares that are open and all the villages use them and we recommend you to wear something at all times as Nudity is not acceptable.
About Meals. Nepali food (Dhal Bhat) will be provided twice a day (around 9AM to 7PM but you can ask them if you want to eat late or early),Dhal Bhat is set food with rice, Lentils, Potato and / or spinach. Tea is served in morning and in afternoon, either black or with cows or buffalo's milk. We also offer popcorn, wheat, millet and corn bread around 3 PM in a day. You are welcome to cook in kitchen too, if you are non-vegetarian you can get local chicken in village.
